But recently, a new coffee trend has been running wild. We’re talking, of course, about Magic Coffee. This title might bring forth thoughts of fairy tales and bogus miracle cures, but as a cuppa, it has become a favourite in Melbourne. Now, The Magic Coffee is coming to the UK.

We’ve put together this blog to explain what Magic Coffee is and why it’s becoming such a sensation for coffee buffs around the world.

What is Magic Coffee?

Magic Coffee, while now a branded product, isn’t a new take on beans or a new product masquerading as coffee. In its simplest terms, it’s two shots of Ristretto, finished with a small quantity of steamed milk, somewhat similar to a flat white. This sounds simple enough, but the difference all comes down to the use of Ristretto over Espresso.

Ristretto vs Espresso

The difference between a Ristretto and an Espresso is simple, with the former containing the same amount of coffee as the latter, but in with half the amount of hot water. This means that the “extraction time” is faster, resulting in a much more concentrated coffee experience.

With a shorter extraction, the flavour experience is said to have a richer mouthfeel, with an increase of sweetness, and a reduction of bitterness.

Why the Magic Coffee is So Beloved?

The Magic Coffee results in a much smoother experience, that many are touting as the perfect way to experience coffee. With the perfect ratio of milk to more concentrated coffee, it’s a uniquely delicious journey through the humble bean.
